Facial Threading Dundee

You've got facial hair you want gone. Upper lip, chin, sides of your face, maybe all of it. It's been bothering you for a while and nothing you've tried has worked without some kind of side effect.

You've tried shaving and it grew back rough and stubbly by the next day. You've tried wax strips at home and your skin broke out in redness and bumps that lasted longer than the hair-free result. You've tried depilatory creams and they irritated your skin, smelled horrible, and didn't even remove everything. You've been told to try laser but the cost and commitment put you off. Every method has a trade-off and you're tired of choosing between smooth skin and angry skin.

Threading is different. No chemicals. No heat. No adhesives. No products applied to your skin at all. Just a cotton thread, twisted and rolled across the skin surface, catching hair in the twist and removing it from the root. Results last 4 to 6 weeks. Your skin stays smooth. And because nothing touches your skin except thread, there's no chemical reaction, no hot wax burn, no adhesive pulling at your skin. Just clean, precise hair removal. At Aesthete Beauty in Dundee, facial threading is carried out by Radina Ignatova, a qualified threading practitioner with over 11 years of beauty experience. Threading from £14. Book online any time or call us on 01382 217888.

A lovely environment, serene and meticulously tidy. But the best part of the experience was meeting Radina, who was so careful and caring. I am so relieved to have found her in my new hometown of Dundee.

The Technique

What is Facial Threading?

Facial threading is a hair removal technique that uses a twisted cotton thread to remove hair from the root. It's one of the oldest hair removal methods in the world, originating in South Asia and the Middle East, and it's still used today because nothing else matches it for precision on facial hair.

Here's how it works. Radina holds a length of cotton thread between her fingers and twists it into a double strand. She rolls this twisted thread across the skin surface in a controlled, fluid motion. As the thread moves, the twist catches individual hairs in a lasso-like grip and lifts them out of the follicle. The entire hair comes out from the root, not just broken off at the surface.

The technique is precise enough to remove individual hairs one at a time, but fast enough to clear an entire area in minutes. It works on the finest facial hair that wax sometimes misses because the thread grips at the hair follicle level rather than relying on adhesion to the hair shaft.

Nothing touches your skin except cotton thread. No wax. No chemical depilatory. No bleaching agents. No hot products. This is why threading is the go-to method for anyone whose skin reacts to other hair removal techniques. If your face breaks out in spots, redness, or bumps after waxing, threading removes that problem entirely because there's nothing to react to.

Some threading practitioners hold one end of the thread in their mouth. It's a traditional technique that frees up a hand for pulling the skin taut. Radina doesn't do this. She holds the thread entirely in her hands. Clients who've been threaded elsewhere and felt uncomfortable about the hygiene of the mouth-held method can relax knowing it's not part of the process here.

One client described the experience as "painless and a perfect finish." Another said Radina "has a light touch, applying a solution before threading to reduce skin irritation and another solution afterwards to calm my skin." Those aren't marketing claims. They're direct quotes from Google reviews written by people who've sat in the chair.

I regularly visit Aesthete Beauty for a range of treatments and am never disappointed. Radina is highly skilled and passionate about what she does. The salon is always immaculate. I would not go anywhere else.

What We Offer

Areas We Thread

Aesthete Beauty offers facial threading for individual areas or the full face. Here's what's available and what it costs.

Upper lip (from £14). The most commonly requested area. Fine hair above the lip removed cleanly and precisely. The treatment takes just a few minutes. You can book it on its own or combine it with other areas.

Chin (from £14). Removes coarser chin hairs that tend to grow back quickly after other methods. Threading pulls the hair from the root, so regrowth takes 4 to 6 weeks rather than days.

Lip and chin combo (£25). Both areas in one appointment. This is the most popular combination. If you're dealing with hair on both your upper lip and chin, booking them together saves time and a few pounds compared to booking separately.

Side of face (£15). Removes peach fuzz and fine hair from the cheeks and sideburns area. Some women have visible downy hair on their cheeks that catches the light or interferes with makeup application. Threading removes it cleanly without the risk of irritation that waxing these sensitive areas can cause.

Neck (£17). Hair along the jawline and neck area that extends below the chin. Commonly requested alongside chin or full face threading.

Full face (£48). Everything done in one appointment. Upper lip, chin, cheeks, sideburns, jawline, and neck. If you have hair across multiple areas and want it all dealt with at once, this is the most efficient and cost-effective option. Radina works systematically across your face so every area is covered.

Always great service! It's a friendly, clean boutique salon. I come here for threading and it's painless and a perfect finish

The Comparison

Threading vs Waxing

Both threading and waxing remove facial hair from the root. Both give results that last 4 to 6 weeks. The difference is how they do it and what that means for your skin.

What threading does differently. No product touches your skin. The thread only contacts the hair it's removing. There's no heat, no adhesive, no chemical. This makes threading the better option if your skin is sensitive, reactive, or prone to breakouts after hair removal. The risk of irritation is significantly lower because there's nothing to irritate.

What waxing does differently. Wax adheres to the hair and a thin layer of the skin surface, then strips both away. It's effective and fast, particularly on larger areas. But it involves hot product applied directly to your skin, adhesive compounds, and a pulling action that can cause redness, bumps, and in some cases breakouts. On sensitive facial skin, this can be a problem.

Threading is more precise. The thread can target individual hairs and remove very fine hair that wax doesn't always grip. For detailed work on the upper lip and chin, threading gives a cleaner finish.

Waxing is faster on large areas. If you need a large area done quickly and your skin handles wax well, it can be more efficient. For the upper lip alone, there's minimal time difference.

Aesthete Beauty offers both. Radina is qualified in both threading and waxing. She'll recommend the right method based on your skin type, the area being treated, and your past experience with hair removal. If you're not sure, ask. She'd rather you get the right treatment than book the wrong one.

Who It's For

Is Facial Threading Right for You?

Facial threading is the right treatment if any of these sound familiar:

  • You have unwanted facial hair on your upper lip, chin, cheeks, or neck
  • Your skin is sensitive and reacts badly to wax with redness, bumps, or breakouts
  • You've tried other hair removal methods and they irritate your facial skin
  • You want a chemical-free, natural hair removal method with nothing applied to your skin
  • You want precise removal of fine facial hair that wax sometimes misses
  • You want results that last 4 to 6 weeks before regrowth starts
  • You prefer a quick treatment you can fit into a lunch break

If your skin handles wax well and you prefer that method, Aesthete Beauty offers facial waxing too. But if your skin has ever reacted to wax, threading is the safer alternative.

Some people break out after threading. Small red bumps or whiteheads around the treated area, usually within 24 hours. It happens because the hair follicle is left open after the hair gets pulled and bacteria can get in. This is more common with waxing because wax sits on the skin and can push bacteria into the open follicles, but it can happen with threading too, especially the first time. Radina applies a calming, antibacterial solution before and after threading to reduce the chance of this happening. Keeping your hands away from the treated area for a few hours afterwards helps as well.

Your Appointment

What to Expect at Your Facial Threading Appointment

All tools and equipment are thoroughly cleaned and hygienically prepared between every client. Fresh towels, sanitised surfaces, and a clean workspace are standard for every appointment.

Here is exactly what happens during your facial threading appointment at Aesthete Beauty.

Threading uses cotton thread and nothing else touches your skin except the pre and post solutions Radina applies. Thread is cut fresh for every client, any tools used for additional tidying are cleaned and sterilised between appointments, and gloves are worn throughout. The salon environment stays clean and calm because threading doesn't produce dust or fumes.

If it's your first visit, you'll get a digital consultation form by email before the appointment. It covers your health and any concerns. Returning clients don't need to fill it in again unless something has changed.

01

Consultation

Radina checks the areas you want threaded and discusses your preferences. If you are having brows done, she maps the shape to your face structure. For other facial areas, she identifies the growth pattern and plans the direction of threading.

02

Skin Preparation

A calming solution is applied to the skin before threading begins. This reduces sensitivity and helps the thread grip the hair more effectively. Not every salon does this step but it makes a real difference to comfort.

03

Threading

Radina holds the twisted cotton thread between her fingers and rolls it across the skin surface. The thread catches individual hairs in its twist and removes them from the root. She works area by area with precision, adjusting the thread tension and speed for different parts of the face.

04

Symmetry Check

After the initial threading, Radina checks the results from multiple angles. Any stray hairs that were missed are removed individually. For brows, she confirms the symmetry and shape match what you discussed.

05

Soothing Treatment

A soothing solution is applied to calm the skin and reduce any redness. Most clients find that redness fades within 30 minutes to an hour. Radina checks the skin one final time before you leave.

The Practitioner

Why Radina's Threading Technique Matters

Threading quality varies hugely between practitioners. The technique, speed, and control of the thread determine both the comfort of the treatment and the quality of the result. A skilled threader is fast, precise, and causes minimal discomfort. An inexperienced one is slow, uneven, and painful.

Radina's threading technique is consistently praised by clients for two things: it's faster than they expected, and it's less painful than they feared. She applies a calming solution to the skin before threading to reduce sensitivity and another solution afterwards to soothe and prevent irritation. This before-and-after care is not standard at every salon. It's an extra step that makes a real difference, particularly for clients with sensitive skin.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Facial Threading in Dundee

Q

What is facial threading?

A hair removal technique using a twisted cotton thread to remove facial hair from the root. The thread catches individual hairs and pulls them from the follicle. No chemicals, heat, or adhesives are involved. It's precise, effective, and particularly good for sensitive skin.

Q

How much does facial threading cost in Dundee?

Small area from £14. Lip and chin combo £25. Side of face £15. Neck £17. Full face £48. All pricing is in the online booking system.

Q

Does threading hurt?

Most clients describe it as a mild pulling sensation, not sharp pain. Radina's technique is quick and controlled, and she applies calming products before and after to reduce sensitivity and irritation. Clients consistently say it's less painful than they expected.

Q

How long does threading last?

4 to 6 weeks before regrowth starts. The hair is removed from the root, so it takes a full growth cycle to come back. With regular threading appointments, regrowth becomes finer and less noticeable over time.

Q

Is threading better than waxing for sensitive skin?

Generally yes. Threading involves no chemicals, heat, or adhesives touching your skin. Only thread contacts the hair being removed. If your skin reacts to wax with redness, bumps, or breakouts, threading removes that risk. Radina can advise based on your specific skin type.

Q

How long does the treatment take?

Upper lip takes a few minutes. Full face takes 15 to 20 minutes. It depends on the area and the amount of hair being removed.

Q

Can I get threading if I have acne or skin conditions?

It depends on the severity and location. Threading is gentler than waxing on reactive skin, but if you have active breakouts, open wounds, or inflamed skin in the area to be threaded, Radina will assess and advise. In some cases she may recommend waiting until the skin has calmed down.

Q

Do you thread eyebrows too?

Yes. Eyebrow threading is available as a separate service under the Eyebrow Bar category. Eyebrow Threading from £18, Eyebrow Reshaping from £22.

Q

Can threading cause breakouts?

It can, especially the first time. When hair is pulled from the root the follicle is left open temporarily and bacteria can get in, causing small bumps. Radina applies an antibacterial solution before and after threading to reduce the risk. Avoid touching the treated area for a few hours afterwards and skip heavy makeup on the area for the rest of the day. Most clients find the breakout risk drops after the first couple of sessions as their skin adjusts.

Q

Is threading more hygienic than waxing?

Nothing touches your skin during threading except a cotton thread. No wax, no adhesive, no chemical. With waxing, a heated product is applied to your skin, pressed down with a strip, and ripped off. Threading removes hair without any product contact, which is why it's generally considered the cleaner option for facial hair removal.

Q

Does facial threading hurt?

It stings. There's no way around that for the first visit. The sensation is a sharp pulling feeling as multiple hairs get removed at once. Most clients describe it as more uncomfortable than painful, and it's over quickly because threading is fast. By the second or third appointment the discomfort is noticeably less because there's less regrowth to remove and your skin adjusts to the process. Radina's technique is designed to minimise discomfort and the calming solution she applies before threading helps.
