You're tired of curling your lashes every morning only to watch them drop flat by lunchtime. You've tried heated curlers. You've tried the curling mascaras that promise hold all day. You've tried layering waterproof formula on top of regular formula. None of it lasts. By midday your lashes are pointing straight forward or downward again and you're back to square one.
The thing is, your natural lashes are fine. They're long enough, there are plenty of them. They just grow straight or downward and no amount of product keeps them where you want them. What you need isn't more mascara. What you need is for the lashes themselves to hold a curl permanently.
An eyelash lift is a semi-permanent treatment that curls your natural lashes upward from the root and locks them into that shape for 6 to 8 weeks. No extensions. No false lashes. No glue. No daily maintenance. Your own lashes, lifted and set so they stay curled from the moment you wake up until the day they naturally grow out and are replaced by new ones. At Aesthete Beauty in Dundee, eyelash lifts are carried out by Radina Ignatova, a qualified lash lift practitioner with over 11 years of beauty experience. Eyelash Lift with Tint from £55. With Hybrid Dye from £55. Book online any time or call us on 01382 217888.
Radina is really lovely and welcoming, and so skilled in many different services. I have had lash lift and eyebrows, and gel nail infills for a few months, and have been so pleased with results every single time. Highly recommend.
An eyelash lift is a semi-permanent treatment that reshapes the curl of your natural lashes. Think of it like a perm, but for your eyelashes. The treatment uses a chemical lifting solution to break down the bonds in the lash structure, reshapes the lashes into an upward curl using a silicone shield, then sets them in that position with a fixing solution.
The result is your own natural lashes curled upward from the root so they look longer, more open, and more defined. Nothing is added to your lashes. Nothing is glued on. Nothing is attached. The treatment works entirely with what you already have.
This is fundamentally different from eyelash extensions, where synthetic lashes are individually bonded to your natural ones. With an eyelash lift, the number of lashes you have stays the same. The length stays the same. The only thing that changes is the direction they point. And that change makes a bigger difference than most people expect. Lashes that were invisible because they pointed straight forward suddenly look twice as long when they're curled upward and you can actually see their full length.
The lift lasts 6 to 8 weeks, which matches the natural growth cycle of your lashes. As old lashes shed and new ones grow in, the lifted lashes are gradually replaced. There's no awkward in-between stage. No fill appointments needed. No removal process. They simply grow out naturally.
The technique has evolved over the last few years. Earlier versions used small rods and harsh perming solutions. Modern lifts use silicone shields in multiple sizes with gentler formulas. Smoother curl. Less risk. What you get is a more natural shape rather than the tight crimp that older methods sometimes produced.
You might have seen Korean lash lifts on social media. The technique varies from traditional methods but the principle is the same: reshape the natural lash from the root using a chemical solution and a shield. The trend in 2026 is towards what's being called a micro-lift. A gentle, subtle upward sweep that opens the eye without looking rigid or overdone. That natural, "my lashes just do this" look is what most clients are asking for right now.
A lovely environment, serene and meticulously tidy. But the best part of the experience was meeting Radina, who was so careful and caring. I am so relieved to have found her in my new hometown of Dundee.
Most clients combine their eyelash lift with colour. Without colour, your lashes will be lifted and curled but may still look pale at the tips, especially if you have fair or light brown lashes. Adding tint or dye completes the look so your lifted lashes have visible definition from root to tip.
Eyelash Lift with Tint (from £55). Traditional lash tinting uses a semi-permanent dye that darkens your lashes for 4 to 6 weeks. It's a reliable, well-established treatment that gives your lashes visible colour and definition. Good for anyone with medium to dark lashes who wants a bit more depth and richness.
Eyelash Lift with Hybrid Dye (from £55). Hybrid dye is a newer formula that produces a darker, more intense result than traditional tint. The colour is deeper, the definition is sharper, and it lasts longer. This is the better option if you have fair, blonde, or light-coloured lashes that are almost invisible without mascara. The hybrid dye makes them properly visible in a way that standard tint sometimes doesn't achieve on very fair lashes.
Radina will look at your natural lash colour and recommend which option will give you the result you're after. If you're not sure, ask. She'd rather you get the right treatment than guess.
It depends on what you're starting with. Not every lash type responds the same way, and knowing what to expect before you book saves disappointment.
Straight lashes are actually the best candidates for a lash lift. If your lashes grow forward or downward instead of curling upwards, the treatment changes their direction completely. The transformation is noticeable. Clients with poker-straight lashes consistently get the most visible results because there's the biggest difference between before and after. One treatment and your lashes look like they've always curled naturally.
Short lashes can be lifted but the effect is subtler. Your lashes need to be at least 4mm long for the shield to grip them properly. The lift creates an illusion of extra length by curling from the root, which opens up the eye. Adding a tint makes a big difference on shorter lashes. The colour adds definition where the curl alone can't. If your lashes are very short, Radina will be honest about what's realistic.
Hooded eyes make lash lifts trickier to perform but the results are worth it. The skin above the lid can droop down and cover the lashes during treatment, so smaller shields are used and the brow is taped up to keep the lash line clear. It takes more time and precision. But for hooded eyes, a lash lift often makes the biggest visible difference of any eye shape. Lifting the lashes out from under the hood opens everything up.
If you're not sure whether your lashes are suitable, send a photo on WhatsApp before you book and Radina will give you an honest answer.
Before and after: the difference a lash lift makes
If you're deciding between a lash lift and lash extensions, here's the honest comparison.
What they do differently. An eyelash lift works with your natural lashes. It curls what you already have. Lash extensions attach individual synthetic lashes to your natural ones to add length, volume, or both. They're fundamentally different treatments with different results.
Maintenance. A lash lift lasts 6 to 8 weeks with zero maintenance. No infill appointments. No special cleaning routine. No sleeping on your back to avoid crushing them. Lash extensions need infill appointments every 2 to 3 weeks to replace lashes that have shed, and they require careful daily maintenance to keep them looking good and avoid damage.
Cost over time. An eyelash lift at Aesthete Beauty costs from £55 every 6 to 8 weeks. Lash extensions typically cost more per initial set plus ongoing infill costs every few weeks. Over a year, a lash lift is significantly more affordable.
Natural lash health. A lash lift doesn't damage your natural lashes when performed correctly. Extensions can weaken natural lashes over time through the weight of the synthetic lashes and the adhesive used to bond them. Improper removal can pull natural lashes out.
The look. A lash lift looks natural. Your lashes are your lashes, just curled. Extensions can look natural or dramatic depending on the style chosen, but they're always adding something that wasn't there before.
What Aesthete Beauty offers. Radina offers eyelash lifts but not extensions. Her approach is enhancing what you naturally have rather than adding synthetic products. If you want a natural, low-maintenance lash enhancement, a lift is the right treatment. If you specifically want dramatic volume that your natural lashes can't provide, extensions are a different service at a different type of salon.
When you look at the annual cost, the difference is stark. A lash lift every six to eight weeks. That's six or seven appointments a year. Around £300 to £350 total. Lash extensions need infilling every two to three weeks. The initial set plus regular infills adds up to £1,200 to £2,000 a year. Four to six times the cost. And extensions carry a higher risk of thinning your natural lashes over time.
The other thing clients tell us is the freedom. No worrying about getting them wet. No special cleansing routine. No avoiding certain sleeping positions for the life of the extensions. A lash lift sits on your own natural lashes and you carry on with your life. Swimming, gym, face down in a pillow. Doesn't matter after the first 48 hours.
Friendly, comfortable, and relaxing. Beautiful results and definitely going back.
An eyelash lift is the right treatment if any of these sound familiar:
A lash lift works best if your natural lashes have reasonable length. The treatment curls and lifts what you have, so the more natural lash there is to work with, the more dramatic the result. If your natural lashes are very short, Radina will be honest about what a lift can achieve and whether it's the right option for you.

Broken down by the day, a lash lift with tint at £55 spread over six to eight weeks works out to roughly £1 to £1.30 per day. You wake up every morning with curled, defined lashes. No mascara. No curler. For what a daily coffee costs, your eyes look done before you've got out of bed.
All tools and equipment are thoroughly cleaned and hygienically prepared between every client. Fresh towels, sanitised surfaces, and a clean workspace are standard for every appointment.
The treatment takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes. You lie down with your eyes closed for the entire process. It's painless and most clients find it relaxing.
Your eyes are closed for the whole treatment but the hygiene around you stays the same as every appointment. Fresh disposable applicators for every client. All reusable tools cleaned and sterilised between appointments. Radina wears gloves throughout. The salon runs Vodex dust extraction for any e-file work done on other services but a lash lift doesn't involve e-file so the room is naturally quiet and calm for the full 50 minutes.
If it's your first visit you'll get a digital consultation form by email beforehand. It asks about your eye health, any sensitivities, medications, and whether you've had lash treatments before. A 48-hour patch test is also required before your first appointment. Book it through the online system, it's free and takes a few minutes.
Radina starts by cleaning your lashes thoroughly to remove any traces of makeup, oil, or residue. The lifting products need to make direct contact with the lash structure to work, so clean lashes are the starting point.
A silicone shield is placed on your upper eyelid. The size of the shield determines the curl. Radina will choose the right size based on your natural lash length and the result you want. Shorter lashes need a smaller shield for a visible curl. Longer lashes can use a larger shield for a more gradual lift.
Your natural lashes are carefully combed upward and adhered to the silicone shield one section at a time. This is the step that determines the final shape. Every lash is positioned individually so they're all curling in the same direction with no crossed or twisted lashes.
The lifting solution is applied to your lashes while they're held against the shield. This solution softens the internal structure of the lash, allowing it to be reshaped. It stays on for 10 to 15 minutes depending on your lash type and thickness.
Once the lashes have been reshaped, a setting solution is applied to lock the new curl in place. This rebuilds the bonds inside the lash in its new curled position. Another 10 to 15 minutes.
Most clients combine the lift with colour. While your lashes are still on the shield, Radina applies either a traditional tint or a hybrid dye to darken and define them. This takes a few additional minutes and completes the look.
A conditioning product is applied to hydrate and strengthen the lashes after the chemical processing. This helps keep them healthy and glossy.
The silicone shield is gently removed. Your lashes are now lifted, curled, and (if you chose tint or dye) coloured. You can open your eyes, look in the mirror, and see the result immediately.
A lash lift is a chemical treatment. The solution breaks down the bonds in your lashes, reshapes them around a shield, and sets them in the new position. When it's done well, the result is beautiful. When it's done badly, you end up with damaged lashes and a lot of regret. The difference is always the person doing it.
The most common problem is over-processing. The solution gets left on too long and the lashes come out kinked, brittle, or curled so tightly they fold back on themselves. This happens when the technician uses the same timing for every client regardless of lash type. Coarse, thick lashes need longer processing. Fine lashes need less. There's no single correct timing and getting it wrong in either direction gives a bad result.
Shield size matters just as much. Too large a shield and the lashes won't lift enough. Too small and they'll curl too tightly. Every client's lash length is different. Sometimes each eye needs a different size. Radina checks both eyes separately and selects shields to match.
Prep is the part nobody sees but it makes or breaks the result. Oil, moisture, makeup residue. Any of these on the lashes and the solution won't bond evenly. If the lashes aren't properly cleaned and dried before the shields go on, the lift will be patchy or won't hold.
A patch test 24 to 48 hours before your first appointment is required. Allergic reactions to lash lift solutions are rare but they do happen, and the only way to know is to test before the full treatment goes near your eyes.
Precision work: lash lift with hybrid brow tint
The first 48 hours are the most important. The bonds in your lashes are still setting during this time and anything that disrupts the process will weaken the curl.
No water on your lashes for 48 hours. This is the big one. No swimming, no steam rooms, no hot showers hitting your face directly. Wash your face carefully and keep water away from your eyes. If your lashes get wet too soon, the curl drops and the treatment won't last as long.
No eye makeup for 24 hours. No mascara, no eyeliner, nothing on or near your lashes. After 24 hours you can wear makeup, but stick to water-based mascara only. Waterproof formulas need oil-based removers to get off, and oil weakens the lift bonds faster than anything else.
Don't touch or rub your eyes. Especially in the first 24 hours. Rubbing distorts the curl before the bonds have set.
Sleep on your back the first night. Pressing your face into a pillow can flatten the curl before it's fully set. After the first 48 hours, sleep however you want.
Ongoing care. Use an oil-free cleanser around your eyes. Avoid waterproof mascara for the life of the lift. A lash serum two or three times a week keeps your lashes nourished and healthy between appointments.
What to expect as it grows out. Weeks one to three are the best period. The curl is defined, your eyes look open, and most clients don't bother with mascara. Around weeks four to five the curl starts to soften. By weeks six to eight you're back to your natural shape. Time to rebook. The transition is gradual, not sudden.
After about six weeks you might notice some lashes starting to sit at odd angles. One pointing left when the rest point up. A few crossing over each other. This is normal. Your lashes grow in cycles and the ones that were lifted are being replaced by new lashes that haven't been treated. A hot flannel pressed gently against your lashes for a few seconds followed by brushing them upward with a spoolie usually sorts them out. If they're getting too unruly it means the lift has grown out and it's time to book your next one.
A semi-permanent treatment that curls your natural lashes upward from the root using a chemical lifting and setting process. No extensions or false lashes are attached. The treatment works with your own natural lashes and lasts 6 to 8 weeks.
Eyelash Lift with Tint from £55. With Hybrid Dye from £55. All current pricing is in the online booking system.
6 to 8 weeks. This matches the natural growth cycle of your lashes. As old lashes shed and new ones grow in, the lifted lashes are gradually replaced. No fill appointments or removal needed.
No. The treatment is painless. You lie down with your eyes closed for approximately 45 to 60 minutes. Most clients find it relaxing. The solutions used may cause a slight tingling sensation but nothing uncomfortable.
An eyelash lift curls your own natural lashes. Nothing is added or attached. Extensions bond individual synthetic lashes to your natural ones to add length and volume. Lifts last 6 to 8 weeks with no maintenance. Extensions need infills every 2 to 3 weeks. Aesthete Beauty offers lifts but not extensions.
Yes. A patch test is required at least 48 hours before your first eyelash lift, tint, or hybrid dye appointment. It checks for any allergic reaction to the products. The test is free and takes a few minutes. Book it through the online system.
If you have very short lashes there won't be enough length for the shield to grip and the result will be minimal. If you have an active eye infection, conjunctivitis, blepharitis, or any inflammation around your eyes you should wait until it clears. If you've had eye surgery recently, check with your surgeon first. If the patch test shows a reaction, the treatment can't go ahead. Radina will assess your lashes at the start and tell you honestly if a lift will work for you.
Yes. The lift grows out naturally as your lashes go through their normal growth cycle. Old lifted lashes fall out and new unlifted ones replace them. By 8 to 10 weeks your lashes will be back to how they were before the treatment. There's no permanent change to the lash structure or growth pattern.
Yes, after the first 48 hours. Most clients find they don't need mascara at all because the lifted, tinted lashes already look defined enough for daily wear. If you want extra drama for a night out, mascara goes on and washes off the same as usual. Use a water-based formula rather than waterproof because waterproof mascaras need oil-based removers which can weaken the lift over time.
Approximately 45 to 60 minutes including the lift, tint or dye, and nourishing treatment.
