You've been putting products on your skin for months, maybe years, and the problem is still there. The pigmentation hasn't faded. The acne scarring hasn't smoothed out. The dullness hasn't lifted. You've bought the glycolic acid toner, the vitamin C serum, the retinol night cream. Some of them made a small difference for a while. None of them fixed the actual problem.
The reason is concentration. The AHA and BHA products you buy in Boots contain active ingredients at 5 to 10% concentration because they're designed for unsupervised home use. That's enough to dissolve a thin layer of dead cells on the surface. It's not enough to trigger the cell turnover, collagen stimulation, and pigmentation reduction that would actually change your skin.
A professional skin peel uses the same types of acids at clinical concentrations (20 to 28%) applied by a trained practitioner who controls the application, timing, and neutralisation. It's the difference between gently buffing the surface and triggering a biological renewal response that rebuilds your skin from the inside. At Aesthete Beauty in Dundee, skin peels use CLINICCARE, a Swedish cosmeceutical range with three professional peel formulations targeting different skin concerns. Carried out by Radina Ignatova, qualified in chemical peels with over 11 years of experience. Skin Peel from £84. Book online any time or call us on 01382 217888.
Absolutely fantastic experience at Aesthete Beauty. Radina is so knowledgeable and professional. She really takes the time to explain everything and makes sure you are comfortable throughout. The results speak for themselves.
Aesthete Beauty offers three CLINICCARE peel formulations. Each uses a different acid at professional concentration to target specific skin concerns. Radina will recommend the right one based on your skin.
Best for: Acne, congestion, oily skin, blackheads, enlarged pores, rosacea.
The Pure peel uses salicylic acid at 20% concentration. Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) that's oil-soluble, which means it doesn't just sit on the skin surface like water-soluble acids. It penetrates into your pores, dissolves the sebum, dead cells, and debris that cause congestion and breakouts, and cleans the pore from the inside.
It also has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. This makes it effective for active acne (it reduces inflammation while clearing pores) and even suitable for sensitive conditions like rosacea where other acids would be too harsh.
If your skin is oily, congested, prone to breakouts, or has enlarged pores from years of clogging, the Pure/BHA peel is the one that targets the cause rather than covering the symptoms.
Best for: Pigmentation, dark spots, uneven skin tone, dullness, sun damage, melasma.
The Glow peel uses glycolic acid at 28% concentration. Glycolic acid is the smallest alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), which means its molecules are small enough to penetrate the skin effectively. It works by dissolving the bonds between dead cells on the surface, accelerating cell turnover so that newer, healthier skin replaces the old.
What makes the Glow peel specific to pigmentation is that it inhibits melanin synthesis. Melanin is the pigment responsible for dark spots, sun damage marks, and uneven tone. By slowing melanin production while simultaneously turning over the pigmented surface cells, the peel actively works to even out your complexion from two directions.
The Glow peel is safe for darker skin tones, which is important because many peel formulations can cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation on darker skin. The CLINICCARE formulation is designed to avoid this.
Best for: Fine lines, wrinkles, loss of firmness, rough texture, ageing skin.
The Refresh peel is a superficial AHA peel that removes the upper layers of the epidermis while stimulating collagen synthesis in the dermis beneath. It's doing two things at once: clearing the dull, rough surface layer and triggering the production of new collagen that firms and strengthens the skin from within.
This is the peel for ageing concerns. Fine lines smooth as new collagen fills the areas where skin has thinned. Texture improves as the rough, sun-damaged surface is replaced by fresher skin. Firmness increases as collagen density builds over multiple treatments.
Enjoyed my chemical face peel and felt l really noticed the difference in my skin. The beautician Radina is a lovely young lady and the surroundings reflect the treatment being given. A very bright modern salon - l would highly recommend
A CLINICCARE peel is a superficial peel, not a deep peel. The recovery is mild and you won't need time off work.
Day of treatment. Your skin may look slightly pink or flushed, similar to mild sunburn. This settles within a few hours for most people.
Days 1 to 3. Your skin may feel tight and dry. Mild flaking or peeling may begin, usually starting around the mouth and spreading outward. This is normal. It's the old, treated skin shedding to reveal the newer skin underneath.
Days 3 to 7. Any flaking or peeling finishes. Your skin starts to look brighter, smoother, and more even. The initial results are visible.
Weeks 2 to 4. Collagen production continues beneath the surface. Skin texture and firmness continue to improve even after the surface has healed.
Aftercare rules: No direct sun exposure without SPF30 or higher. No retinol, AHAs, BHAs, or exfoliating products for one week. No makeup for 24 hours. Don't pick or pull at flaking skin. Keep your skin hydrated with a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser. Avoid hot showers, saunas, and swimming for 48 hours.
If you have darker skin, chemical peels need more careful selection. Deeper peels carry a risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation on melanin-rich skin, which means the treatment designed to reduce dark marks could temporarily create new ones if the wrong acid or concentration is used. The CLINICCARE range includes options that are safer for darker skin tones. Radina assesses your skin type at your consultation and will only recommend a peel and concentration that's appropriate. If your skin tone means a particular peel carries too much risk, she'll tell you and suggest an alternative approach.
A single peel gives visible results. Multiple peels give transformative results.
For mild concerns (general dullness, minor texture issues, maintenance), a single peel every 4 to 6 weeks keeps your skin turning over and looking fresh.
For moderate concerns (established pigmentation, acne scarring, visible fine lines), a course of 3 to 6 peels spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart produces cumulative improvement. Each peel builds on the previous one. Pigmentation fades progressively. Scarring smooths gradually. Collagen builds incrementally.
For ongoing maintenance after a course, a peel every 6 to 8 weeks maintains the results and prevents your skin from reverting to its previous state.
Radina will recommend a treatment plan based on your skin and goals. She'll be honest about what a single peel can achieve versus what requires a course.
A very professional service. Excellent facilities and I will be going back
A CLINICCARE skin peel is the right treatment if any of these sound familiar:
A skin peel is not suitable if you have active cold sores, open wounds, severely inflamed skin, or are using isotretinoin (Roaccutane). A patch test is required before your first peel. Radina will assess your suitability at your consultation or appointment.
CLINICCARE Skin Peel £84 (Pure/BHA, Glow/AHA, or Refresh/AHA).
A patch test is required before your first peel. The patch test is free and takes 10 minutes. Book it through the online system at least 48 hours before your treatment appointment.
A Skin Consultation (£10, deducted from treatment) is recommended if you're not sure which peel suits your concern.
All current pricing is in the online booking system. Pick your service, choose your time, done. You can also call us on 01382 217888 or message on WhatsApp.
All tools and equipment are thoroughly cleaned and hygienically prepared between every client. Fresh towels, sanitised surfaces, and a clean workspace are standard for every appointment.
The treatment takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
The peel solution is applied directly to your skin, so the environment and tools need to be clean. Fresh disposable applicators, gauze pads, and cloths for every client, all reusable tools sterilised between appointments, and Radina in gloves throughout the cleansing, application, and neutralisation stages. CLINICCARE peel solutions are dispensed from sealed professional bottles.
First-time peel clients get a digital consultation form by email before the appointment. It covers your skin concerns, current skincare routine, medications, and whether you use retinol or any prescription actives. Matters more here than most treatments. Certain products interact with chemical peels and Radina needs to know before the acid goes on your skin. A patch test is also required 48 hours before your first peel.
Radina examines your skin, discusses your concerns, and confirms which peel is right for you. If you've had a consultation previously, she'll check how your skin has responded since your last appointment.
Your skin is thoroughly cleansed with CLINICCARE Concentrated Cleansing Foam to remove makeup, oil, and surface residue. The peel needs direct contact with clean skin to work effectively.
The peel gel is applied to your skin. You may feel a mild tingling or warmth as the acid begins to work. Radina monitors your skin's response throughout and controls the application to ensure even coverage.
The peel is left on for a specific time depending on the formulation and your skin's tolerance. This is the active phase where the acid is dissolving dead cells and triggering cell turnover beneath.
The peel is neutralised and removed. Your skin is cleaned and a calming, hydrating product is applied.
Sun protection is applied before you leave. Your skin is more sensitive to UV after a peel, so SPF is non-negotiable for the next few weeks.
A professional chemical peel using CLINICCARE cosmeceutical-grade acids at 20 to 28% concentration. It removes the upper layers of dead skin and triggers cell renewal, collagen production, and pigmentation reduction beneath. Three formulations available targeting different concerns.
£84 per treatment. All three peel types (Pure/BHA, Glow/AHA, Refresh/AHA) are the same price. All pricing is in the online booking system.
You may feel mild tingling or warmth during the treatment. Most clients describe it as a slight prickling sensation, not pain. The feeling subsides once the peel is neutralised.
Minimal. Your skin may be slightly pink on the day and experience mild flaking over 2 to 5 days. You don't need time off work. Avoid sun, retinol, and exfoliating products for one week.
One peel gives visible results. For established concerns like pigmentation or scarring, a course of 3 to 6 peels spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart gives the best results. Radina will recommend a plan.
Pure/BHA for acne, congestion, oily skin. Glow/AHA for pigmentation, dark spots, dullness. Refresh/AHA for fine lines, firmness, texture. Radina will assess and recommend.
Yes, before your first CLINICCARE peel. The patch test is free, takes 10 minutes, and must be done at least 48 hours before treatment. Book through the online system.
Not on the same day. Your skin needs to recover after a peel. Book other treatments for a separate appointment. You can combine a peel with a facial in a subsequent session once your skin has healed.
It can be, but the peel type and concentration matter more than they do for lighter skin. Darker skin is more prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which means the wrong peel can temporarily darken the areas you're trying to lighten. The CLINICCARE range includes formulations suitable for darker skin tones. Radina will assess your skin at your consultation and only recommend what's safe for your complexion.
They do different things. A skin peel uses chemical acids to dissolve the upper skin layers and trigger cell renewal. Good for pigmentation, dullness, congestion, and surface texture. Microneedling uses tiny needles to create controlled micro-injuries that trigger collagen production from deeper in the skin. Better for scarring, fine lines, and firmness. Some concerns respond well to both. Radina can advise which suits your skin after a consultation.
Not straight away. Your skin has been chemically exfoliated and the pores are open, so putting product on top can cause irritation or breakouts. Avoid makeup for the rest of the day after your peel. From the next day you can wear mineral or lightweight makeup if needed but avoid heavy foundation for 3 to 5 days while your skin is flaking and renewing. SPF is more important than makeup during recovery.
