Patch Test Dundee

You've booked your first lash lift, or your first CLINICCARE peel, or your first tint. Before any of those treatments can happen, you need a patch test. It's not optional. It's a safety requirement that protects you from having an allergic reaction to products that will be applied near your eyes or on your face.

A patch test takes a small amount of the product that will be used in your treatment and applies it to a discrete area of skin. If your skin reacts, you know before the product goes anywhere near your face. If it doesn't react, you're clear to go ahead with your treatment. It takes 10 minutes and it needs to be done at least 48 hours before your appointment.

At Aesthete Beauty in Dundee, patch tests are carried out by Radina Ignatova. Patch tests for tint, hybrid dye, lash lift, wax, and CLINICCARE peel are free. Nail patch tests from £10. Book online any time or call us on 01382 217888.

I regularly visit Aesthete Beauty for a range of treatments and am never disappointed. Radina is highly skilled and passionate about what she does. The salon is always immaculate. I would not go anywhere else.

The Safety Step

Why Patch Tests Are Required

Allergic reactions to beauty products are rare but they do happen. When they happen on your face, around your eyes, or on your scalp, they can be serious. Swelling, redness, itching, burning, blistering. In severe cases, a reaction near the eyes can affect your vision temporarily.

The products used in lash lifts, tints, hybrid dyes, and chemical peels contain active ingredients that some people are sensitive to. You might have used similar products before without a problem. That doesn't guarantee you won't react to a different formulation. Sensitivity can develop over time even to products you've used previously.

A patch test eliminates this risk. If you're going to react, you find out on a small, discrete area of skin where the reaction is minor and manageable. Not on your face during a treatment.

Aesthete Beauty requires patch tests because Radina takes your safety seriously. Some salons skip this step because it's inconvenient. It adds an extra appointment before the treatment. But the inconvenience of a 10-minute patch test is nothing compared to the consequences of an allergic reaction during a treatment.

All gel products used at Aesthete Beauty are HEMA-free, which reduces the risk of contact dermatitis and allergic reactions from nail products. But HEMA isn't the only potential allergen. Lifting solutions, tint dyes, and peel acids can all cause reactions in sensitive individuals. HEMA-free doesn't mean risk-free. A patch test still catches reactions to other ingredients that no product reformulation can eliminate.

Is It For You?

Is a Patch Test Right for You?

You need a patch test if any of these apply:

  • You're booking an eyelash tint, hybrid dye, or lash lift for the first time at Aesthete Beauty
  • You're booking a CLINICCARE skin peel for the first time
  • It's been more than 6 months since your last treatment using the same products
  • You have a history of skin sensitivity or allergic reactions to beauty products
  • You've switched to a new product range and haven't been tested for it
  • You want peace of mind before having products applied near your eyes or on your face

If you've had the same treatment at Aesthete Beauty within the last 6 months using the same products, you don't need a new patch test. Radina keeps records of your patch test history.

Your Appointment

What to Expect at Your Patch Test Appointment

All tools and equipment are thoroughly cleaned and hygienically prepared between every client. Fresh towels, sanitised surfaces, and a clean workspace are standard for every appointment.

Not every treatment at Aesthete Beauty requires a patch test. Here's what does and what doesn't.

If it's your first visit, you'll get a digital consultation form by email before the appointment. It covers your health and any concerns. Returning clients don't need to fill it in again unless something has changed.

01

Application

Radina applies a small amount of the product to a discrete area of skin, typically behind your ear or on your inner elbow. These areas are chosen because the skin is sensitive enough to show a reaction but hidden enough that any reaction isn't visible.

02

Wait period

You leave the salon and go about your day. The product stays on your skin for 24 to 48 hours. During this time, your body has a chance to react if it's going to.

03

Check

If the area shows no reaction (no redness, swelling, itching, or irritation) after 48 hours, you're clear to proceed with your treatment. If there is a reaction, Radina will discuss alternative options that don't use the product you reacted to.

04

Booking your treatment

Once your patch test is clear, you can book your treatment appointment. The patch test must be done at least 48 hours before the treatment, so plan ahead. Book the patch test first, then book your treatment for a later date.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Patch Tests in Dundee

Q

Do I need a patch test?

Yes, before your first eyelash tint, hybrid dye, lash lift, or CLINICCARE skin peel at Aesthete Beauty. Also required if it's been more than 6 months since your last treatment with the same products.

Q

How much does a patch test cost?

Free for tint, hybrid dye, lash lift, wax, and CLINICCARE peel. Nail product patch tests from £10.

Q

How long does a patch test take?

The application takes about 10 minutes at the salon. You then wait 48 hours before your treatment to see if any reaction develops.

Q

Where is the patch test applied?

Behind your ear or on your inner elbow. These areas are sensitive enough to show a reaction but discrete enough that any reaction isn't visible.

Q

What happens if I react to the patch test?

Radina will discuss the reaction with you and recommend alternative treatments or products that don't contain the ingredient you reacted to. You won't be left without options.

Q

Can I book my treatment and patch test on the same day?

You can have the patch test done on the same day you book, but the treatment itself must be at least 48 hours later. The patch test needs time to show any reaction.

Q

Do I need a new patch test every time?

Not if you've had the same treatment with the same products within the last 6 months. If it's been longer, or you're trying a different product, a new patch test is required.

Q

What does a positive patch test look like?

Redness, itching, swelling, or a rash at the application site within 48 hours. Any visible skin reaction counts as a positive result. Even mild redness that fades quickly is worth mentioning to Radina because it suggests sensitivity that could be worse on a larger treatment area. If nothing happens after 48 hours, you're clear to book.

Q

Can I still get the treatment if I react to the patch test?

No. A positive patch test means your skin is sensitive to that specific product. Applying it to a larger area, especially near your eyes, would risk a more serious reaction. Radina will discuss alternatives. For lash treatments, a different dye formulation might work. For peels, a milder acid or a different approach entirely. A reaction doesn't mean you can never have the treatment. It means that specific product isn't safe for you.
